An Act prohibiting discrimination in housing because of arrest or conviction record, making it a Class I felony to discriminate in employment or housing because of arrest or conviction record, and providing a penalty

Update: July 8th, 2009 -- Representative Marlin Schneider has reintroduced similar legislation as AB-340 (Link)

Breaking News! March 18th, 2009 -- From the Office of Former Governor Marty Schreiber:

Based on contacts to other stakeholders, I have learned that Representative Schneider intends to withdraw Assembly Bill 22 from consideration, stating it is not what he intended. I further understand that he has received a significant number of contacts from constituents and others saying they will fight to oppose the bill.

Check back here in a week or so to see if the bill is indeed dead.

Wisconsin Assembly Bill AB 22 will make criminals a protected housing class, forcing landlords to rent to felons and invalidating local sex offender residency ordinances in Wisconsin.

Contact your state representative and senator. Tell them this bill is unacceptable to you and your family. Find your legislators here.

Contact you local alderman and mayor. While this is a state legislative issue, local governments have reason to be concerned as they will have to abandon their sexual offender residency restrictions ordinances.
